Goal 1 - Erradicate extreme poverty and hunger

Paraná State hosts more than 2,2 million people in poverty situations, approximately one third of people live in indigence condition. In 1990, the income per capita of families was not enough to provide basic food for them. This situation has been shifting gradually in Paraná state. In 2005, the percentage of families in this condition moved to 25% (One in every four families). The Paraná state is a major food producer and its citizens cannot suffer from hunger. Let’s eradicate the extreme poverty and hunger in our state. This is our first challenge. 

Goals Indicators

Reduce by half, the proportion of people whose income is less than $1 a day by 2015

Proportion of people living on less than $1.25 a day,

Percentages in 1990 and in 2005 
Reduce by half, the proportion of people who suffer from hunger by 2015 Rate of the hiatus of poverty.
Participation of the poorer 20% of the population in income and national consumption

Proportion of children under age five whoare underweight (Percentage)

Prevalence of the population that does not achieve the minimum level of calorie diet growth

How to help

  • Stimulate family and community agriculture of subsistence
  • Fight hunger in rural and metropolitan regions through volunteering initiatives, distribution and training of work force in the production of basic food
  • Encourage programs to support school meals and nutritional education
  • Teach social organizations and families to better use the food and avoid its waste
  • Support the alternative income generation through the organization of cooperatives and stimulate the better use of production in its activities and support in the selling of the surplus
  • Support educational programs, training and digital inclusion of children and young people for future inclusion in labor market
